Lost
In the past couple of weeks, I've been watching Lost, the TV series. I must say I really love it. But only after seeing the fourth episode of season 2, I was able to really put my finger on what I like the most in the series.
There are of course many things: interesting characters, suspension, 2 good-looking men (few series nowaday have even a single one!), good stories, the mysteries. There is only a little humor and even that is quite dark, but it suits. Not every series needs to be like Buffy or Firefly.
But now, this fourth episode really made me put into words the thing I like most about the series. It is one of the attractions Buffy (and to a smaller extent, Angel) held to me, too: interesting, moving characters that develop, go through problems and grown as human beings. The whole series is, of course, about this kind of growth; this theme was quite apparent in the few first episodes allready. But I really like the way it is displayed. In Buffy, all the horrors and problems of teenage/young adult life were portrated as monsters. In Lost, they come from the challenges that the island poses, and are given meaning in the flashes about the characters' pre-island days. The problems are more adult-like, often, and of course this is also good - as a viewer, I also have grown older. So yes, some more Lost to me soon, please!
